Heavy snowfall in Denmark has led to numerous issues. Several customers and employees at IKEA in Aalborg had to spend the night in the furniture department until Thursday night.

The snowy weather in North Jutland led to major traffic problems. Six customers and 25 employees couldn’t get home from the Ikea department store on Wednesday night.

A lady who works at a toy store next to Ikea sought refuge at the premises of the furniture giant together with several of her colleagues.

Everyone could choose which bed they wanted to sleep in, store manager Peter Elmose said. He also had to spend the night at his workplace. But before going to bed, the snow-trapped people gathered in the restaurant.

“We found some games, there was football on the big screens, cinnamon buns, coffee, cocoa, juice, and beer,” Elmose said.

Snow chaos

The snow chaos led to all flights from Aalborg Airport being canceled from 2:30 PM on Wednesday. Around 300 travelers had to spend the night in the terminal area.

Police warned people not to go out at all on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Danish Meteorological Institute, up to 30 centimeters of snow fell during the last 24 hours.

On Thursday, there are still major traffic problems around North Jutland, and snow, slippery roads, and traffic accidents have been reported in several places in the country.
