Police plan to arrest a couple of parents after an infant was admitted to the University Hospital of Northern Norway this week. The parents do not admit criminal guilt.

“The child, who is a few months old, has been hospitalized due to injuries that may be due to the child being exposed to violence,” prosecutor Elin Norgård Strand in Troms Police District noted in a press release on Friday morning.

The newspaper Nordlys first mentioned the case.

The police are now investigating whether the injuries are due to violence or whether the injuries have another explanation. The National Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos) is assisting the Troms Police District in the investigation.

Ongoing police effort

The parents have been charged in the case. The family lives in Troms.

According to Nordlys, the parents themselves brought the child to the University Hospital of Northern Norway earlier this week.

“As the case stands now, we believe there is reason to suspect that the injuries were inflicted by one or both parents and consider it necessary to remand them in custody to avoid evidence being lost,” Norgård Strand said.

The police are requesting two weeks of custody for the parents. The two parents, who are in their 30s and live in Troms, do not admit guilt.

The police will carry out interrogations, forensic examination, and search efforts, among other things.
