A man in his 50s has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison in Trøndelag District Court for domestic violence.

The man has also been sentenced to a five-year contact ban and NOK 120,000 compensation to his cohabitant and children. The verdict was handed down on Thursday, March 17.

The convicted person committed violence, made threats, and abused his cohabitant and his four children on repeated occasions between 1998 and 2020.

The abuse allegedly occurred over a period of at least 15 years, with the man regularly hitting his cohabitant in the face and body in front of the children. Three of the four children are also said to have been beaten on repeated occasions. He strangled his cohabitant and two of the children and has repeatedly made threats of violence, according to the verdict.

Life full of fear

The court has emphasized that the children describe a childhood where they lived in constant fear of violence.

The man is also convicted of sexually abusing the woman and has to pay NOK 60,000 in restitution to the woman.

He was acquitted of threatening another man.
