Trondheim Municipality must pay NOK 400,000 in legal costs to the Dreams strip club after losing a case in the district court in relation to a license for serving alcohol.

In June last year, the City Council in Trondheim Municipality decided that strip clubs are not allowed to have a license to serve alcohol. Thus, the city’s only strip club, Dreams Showbar, lost its liquor license from October 1.

The owner took the case to court, and on Monday, it became clear that the strip club won, the newspaper Adresseavisen writes.

“It is good to be upheld in (the position that) you can’t use the Alcohol Act to close legal businesses,” the owner of Dreams Atle Maaø told the newspaper.

In the verdict, the district court stated that Trondheim Municipality’s refusal to issue a license to serve alcohol is invalid. At the same time, the Municipality has been sentenced to pay NOK 400,000 in legal costs to the strip club.
