President Donald Trump is asking protesters to remain peaceful after the Congress was stormed on Wednesday.

“Please support our Capitol police and other police. They are really on our side. Stay peaceful!” Trump urged on Twitter.

Just minutes earlier, Trump attacked Vice President Mike Pence and said he did not have the courage to reject the election result.

Earlier in the day, Trump incited people not to accept the election result and said he would never give up.

The message comes as thousands of protesters have broken through security barriers around the US Congress building.

According to CNN, shots were fired and one woman was critically injured.
