By Friday morning, Tryg Forsikring received 103 claims in connection with the extreme weather event Gyda. That is an increase of 53 cases since Thursday afternoon.

“These are mostly flood and water damage claims, as water has penetrated buildings, mainly basements or lower floors. Most claims have been made in Møre og Romsdal and Trøndelag, but we also have a part in Nordland and Troms,” Torbjørn Brandeggen, communications consultant at Tryg Forsikring, noted in a press release.

In the last ten years, the insurance companies have paid compensation of more than NOK 30 billion for weather and natural damages to buildings, figures from Finans Norge show. Almost half apply to damages due to extreme rainfall or heavy rain showers.

“We currently estimate the damage at around NOK 12 million, but these are estimates that will be corrected when the damages are investigated further,” Brandeggen said.
