In the first months of the year, Bane Nor has registered 45 instances of children on the train tracks – twice as many from the same period last year.

In some of the cases, which have been registered from January 1 to May 10 this year, the train driver had to use the emergency brake or sharply reduce the speed, Bane Nor stated in a press release.

During the same period in 2020, 21 similar incidents were registered. The increase is greatest on the Nordlandsbanen, Østfoldbanen, and Dovrebanen.

“There are no large numbers, but we are concerned about the marked increase. Now we issue a warning to avoid tragedies,” Pål Buset at Bane Nor said.

Bane Nor has developed a website, Banorama.no, to provide children and young people with the necessary knowledge related to the dangers involved.
