The reason was unclear as to why a small plane crashed in Meråker on Wednesday. Two people died in the accident on Wednesday afternoon.

Trøndelag police district reported that a small plane had triggered an emergency signal at 15.42 and initiated a major hunt to find the missing plane.

Police, military, firefighters, Norwegian People’s Aid,and a number of volunteers were involved in the search for the small aircraft.

According to NRK news, mobile tracing and tracking of the emergency transmitter from the plane indicated a possible area where the aircraft could have fallen, and
just before 18.00, the aircraft was located from the air by a Sea King helicopter.

The police have identified the dead and on Wednesday evening reported their deaths to relatives.

Dense terrain

The plane was found in a rugged area with dense scrub and forest. Since the rescue helicopter failed to land in the challenging terrain, the rescue crew were sent to the wreck where the two people were found dead.

The plane crashed about 600 meters north of the flight strip at Meråker. It is still unclear whether the two pilots attempted to land on an airplane landing strip, which according to Værne’s airline is only equipped for daylight flying.
