Police have brought in two girls in their teens after three fires broke out in Trondheim city center on Saturday afternoon.

Police reported the fires on Saturday afternoon. Within an hour, it started burning in several places, including in a parking lot and in a garbage can in the center.

“We have had three fires in a short time in Midtbyen. We now have control over two young girls in their teens who may be suspected of starting two of these fires. The investigation will show if we can link them to the third fire as well,” the police in Trøndelag wrote on Saturday night.

Police attorney Marthe Kulset Dahl told NTB that one of the fires that took place in the garage of the shopping center Trondheim Torg could have developed into a larger fire.

One of the girls has been arrested for arson. Investigators believe there is a connection between the girls.

“None of the girls are known to the police from before. We are in contact with the child welfare service about what will happen to the girls,” the police attorney stated.
