A boat started sinking at the guest pier in Tønsberg on Monday. Two men in their 20s have been arrested. They have been charged with theft of the boat and driving under the influence.

“We became suspicious that the boat was stolen after we talked to the two people on board,” operations manager Merete Kvaal in the Southeastern Police District told the newspaper VG.

The two arrested are in their 20s and are from Vestfold, the police noted on Twitter.

The police were notified that a boat with two people on board was about to sink at 5:03 PM. With the help of other boats, the police managed to steer the boat ashore before it sank.

“Efforts are being made to prevent polluting discharges,” the police reported.
