At least 260 civilians have been killed in the clashes in and around Kharkiv since Russian troops invaded Ukraine nearly a month ago, local authorities say.

Fourteen children are among the killed, the authorities stated in an update on Saturday night.

The city in northeastern Ukraine, which is besieged by Russian troops, had a population of 1.5 million before the war began.

Artillery fire on the city continues, and several residential buildings were hit and set on fire Saturday night, the Ukrainian news agency Unian reported.

The information could not be verified independently.
