Russia has once again promised a ceasefire and safe routes for civilians to leave several Ukrainian cities.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the ceasefire takes effect at 8 AM Norwegian time.

Several previous attempts to evacuate civilians, including from the besieged port city of Mariupol, have failed as a result of breaches of the ceasefire.

However, around 5,000 Ukrainians and around 1,700 foreign students were able to leave the city of Sumy in northern Ukraine on Tuesday.

The evacuation of civilians from Sumy is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, according to the region’s governor, Dmytro Zhyvytskyj.
