There is a risk of increased radioactive radiation from Chernobyl after a total power outage hit the decommissioned nuclear power plant.

The Ukrainian nuclear energy company Energoatom announced the news on Wednesday.

The reason for the increased radiation danger is that energy is needed to cool down nuclear fuel stored at the decommissioned nuclear power plant, Reuters writes, quoting the company.

Due to fighting at the nuclear power plant, it has not been possible to re-establish the power supply.
