Ukraine: Seven soldiers killed in Russian airstrikes

On Thursday morning, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry announced that seven Ukrainian soldiers had been killed in airstrikes in recent hours.

In addition, 15 soldiers have been wounded, and 19 are currently missing. A bridge over the Inhulets River west of the country has allegedly been destroyed.

Ukrainian border authorities report that Russian tanks have crossed the front line in the Luhansk region in the east of the country.

Russia launches attack on Ukraine

In the middle of the night, around 4 AM Norwegian time, in an extraordinary television address, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was launching a military operation in Ukraine.

Putin announced the attack on Ukraine during an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council.

Ukraine has closed its airspace to civilian flights. CNN journalists report explosions in Kyiv and at least six other Ukrainian cities.
