Ukraine’s ambassador to Norway says the Ukrainian government is happy that Norway is considering sending military equipment to the country. He hopes the decision will be made quickly.

“Ukraine welcomes the Norwegian Prime Minister’s announcement that Norway is considering sending military equipment to Ukrainian forces. If implemented, this will be a historic decision for Norway made at the right moment,” Ambassador Vyacheslav Jatsjuk noted in a statement sent to NTB.

He says it will be both a strong expression of solidarity with Ukraine and a very practical contribution to assist Ukraine’s “heroic resistance.”

“It will also send another signal to the Kremlin as to why their decision to invade Ukraine was their worst strategic mistake, which must be rectified immediately,” Yatsuk said.

Hoping for a swift decision

He says that in light of the seriousness of the situation, Ukraine expects the relevant decisions from the Norwegian government to be made as soon as possible.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (AP) told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that he would consider whether Norway should send military equipment to Ukraine.

Støre said he would potentially look at defensive equipment.

“We will go through the lists Ukraine has given us of defensive equipment they need, and we will see if there is anything Norway can contribute from the lists,” Støre told NTB.
