Ukrainian military aircraft shot down, multiple casualties reported

According to Ukraine’s emergency services, five people lost their lives after a Ukrainian military plane was shot down on Thursday, Sky News reports. 

There were allegedly 14 people on board the plane.

According to the news agency AFP, the emergency services are still investigating how many people died.

The plane is said to have been shot down about 20 kilometers south of the capital Kyiv. There have been a number of reports of explosions in several places in the city.

Russia invaded Ukrainian territory in the early hours of Thursday. Explosions have been reported in the areas near the border with Russia in the east of the country, as well as in the north and west.

Ukraine has closed its airspace to civilian flights.
