Ukrainian President Zelensky: The world must force Putin to accept peace

Ukraine’s allies are building a coalition that must force Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept peace, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday.

“Ukraine’s allies are building a coalition against Putin,” Zelensky said on Thursday. 

He urged the international community to take action to force Moscow to halt its attack on Ukraine.

“We are building an anti-Putin coalition. The world must force Russia to (accept) peace,” Zelenskyj wrote on Twitter after talking to leaders from the US, EU, UK, Germany, and Poland.

Russia launches attack on Ukraine

In the middle of the night, around 4 AM Norwegian time, in an extraordinary television address, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was launching a military operation in Ukraine.

Putin announced the attack on Ukraine during an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council.

Ukraine has closed its airspace to civilian flights. CNN journalists report explosions in Kyiv and at least six other Ukrainian cities.
