The state-owned Ukrainian railway company says at least 30 people have been killed in a Russian attack on the station in Kramatorsk.

More than 100 people were injured in the attack, according to the railway company.

AFP’s journalists who are on the scene have themselves counted at least 20 dead people.

According to the railway company, thousands of civilians were at the station when the attack occurred. They were to be evacuated to safer places in the country.

The train station is used by people trying to get away from the area. Earlier this week, Ukrainian authorities urged all civilians to evacuate the eastern parts of the country pending a major Russian offensive.

Two rockets are said to have hit the station. Kramatorsk is situated in the Donetsk region.
