The UN Office for Human Rights has received credible reports that Russian forces have repeatedly used cluster munitions in residential areas of Ukraine.

“Due to the fact that they are spread over a large area, the use of cluster munitions is incompatible with the principles of international humanitarian law that apply to acts of war,” OHCHR spokeswoman Liz Throssell said on Friday, according to the news agency Reuters.

She reminded Russian authorities that it is illegal to target civilian targets, just as it is also forbidden to carry out so-called area shelling of towns and villages.
