Official figures from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) show that 4.01 million people have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion started.

Of these, 2.3 million have fled to Poland, but many have since traveled to other countries.

The figure is a new milestone in the biggest European refugee crisis since World War II.

In January, it was estimated that Ukraine had around 41 million inhabitants, so just over one in ten Ukrainians have fled in just over a month.

The flow of refugees has slowed down in recent days as many await the further development of the war. Around 6.5 million people are now estimated to be internally displaced.
