A total of 243 new Unio members will join the strike from Monday. Thus, a total of 863 Unio members will be on strike at Norway’s health trusts next week.

Most of the participants, 538, are nurses, Unio reported in a press release. The escalation is taking place at the same hospitals where workers are already on strike.

“The will to strike is still significant,” Unio Spekter leader Lill Sverresdatter Larsen said.

“We are now stepping up to put further pressure on Spekter and the health trusts. We do not want to affect the patients – we want to get the other party back to the negotiating table. This is about vital investments in vital skills,” Sverresdatter said.

The employers’ organization Spekter organizes, among other things, the health trusts. The nurses demand a clear increase in real wages, i.e., more than the offer of 2.82% that is currently on the table.

The last time nurses went on strike, in 2018, the strike lasted 28 days. The Norwegian Nurses’ Association is one of 13 unions in Unio.
