According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 1.7 million people have fled Ukraine since Russia invaded the country a week and a half ago.

According to the latest update from the UNHCR, 1,735,068 refugees were registered on Monday – about 200,000 more than on Sunday.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) says that about half of the refugees are children.

EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell says the EU must prepare to receive up to 5 million refugees from Ukraine.

Borrell made the statement ahead of the EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Montpellier, France.
