A total of 39 new corona infection cases have been registered in Trondheim in the last 24 hours – eight fewer than the day before.

Out of the new cases, one has an unknown source of infection, while 37 are known close contacts, Trondheim Municipality stated on Thursday.

The infection rates have been very low in Trondheim throughout the winter and spring, often with only a few registered cases of infection a day.

However, lately, the Municipality has experienced a spike in infection. That has led to the Municipality tightening up on Wednesday and adopting new local infection control regulations.

Additional effort needed

On Wednesday, it became known that the County Governor in Trøndelag asked the county to make an effort in the next 14 days to slow down the spread of infection.

“It worries me a lot because, in Trøndelag, there are still many in the risk groups who have not been vaccinated.

“These people require extra protection going forward. We must all take action in the next 14 days, so that we prevent an even greater spread of infection,” infection control official Marit D. Kverkild at the County Governor in Trøndelag said.
