Update: Norway’s local corona certificate scheme could be in place during the week

The corona passes will probably be ready for use during the week. The Ministry of Health is working with the FHI and the Norwegian Directorate of Health to get the legal and practical aspects of the scheme in place.

“We hope to have this in place during this week. At the same time, we are working to look at the more extensive use of corona certificates nationally,” the Ministry of Health and Care Services wrote in an email.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (AP) told TV 2 that the use of corona certificates in Norway would be ready in a few days.

Might be relevant at the national level

At a press conference on Friday, the government stated that it would allow the municipalities to use local corona certificates to prevent lockdowns.

During the conference, it was mentioned that the use of corona certificates could also be a national measure. Concert venues, sporting events, cinemas, and theaters were mentioned as relevant places for the use of certificates.

“Now that everyone has been offered a vaccine, it is easier to imagine that you can use the corona certificate to prevent a large spread of infection,” Støre said.

In order to have a green corona certificate, people need to be vaccinated, immune because they have had corona, or have a negative corona test.

Local certificates 

Tromsø had plans to introduce the corona certificate locally already on Tuesday, but these plans have now been postponed. 

The certificates could be introduced on Friday at the earliest, Mayor Gunnar Wilhelmsen told TV 2.

“It is understandable that it takes time to get the regulations in place, and it will be good if we get it in place before the weekend,” Wilhelmsen noted.

Tromsø has recently had a lot of corona infection. In the last 24 hours, 75 new corona cases have been registered.

There is also an outbreak of infection at the University Hospital of Northern Norway. Four patients and five employees at the cardiology department at UNN in Tromsø have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, the newspaper Nordlys writes.
