A 76-year-old man has been sentenced to prison for abusing nine of his great-grandchildren over a period of at least 16 years.

According to the verdict, the abuse took place in the period from autumn 2002 or spring 2003 to spring 2019.

According to the verdict from a district court in Viken county, the youngest children were 5-6 years old when the abuse started.

During the trial, the man pleaded guilty to several of the charges. He also said that since puberty, he had reacted sexually by thinking about cuddling with boys from the age of five and that he had understood that he was a pedophile before the mid-70s.

He also stated that he was previously part of a pedophile environment in Norway.

2019 case

The case started after the youngest of the children spoke out about the abuse in 2019. The abuse of the other children was then revealed.

The man has also previously been convicted of child abuse and was also charged in a major pedophilia case several years ago.

During the trial, the prosecutor requested twelve years’ detention with a minimum term of eight years. The court concluded that a time-limited sentence of twelve years is sufficient due to the man’s old age and that there is a low risk that he will pose a risk of new abuse when he is released.

He is also sentenced to pay a total compensation of NOK 2.4 million to the nine victims in the case.
