The police in Tromsø have opened a full investigation into a violent incident in Tromsø this weekend where a man in his 30s was critically injured.

An 18-year-old man was arrested after the incident but was released on Sunday. He is accused of having committed grievous bodily harm against the man in his 30s.

The victim’s situation was still critical on Monday.

The 18-year-old does not admit criminal guilt in the case, the newspaper Nordlys writes.

Surveillance cameras

The police are examining the surveillance camera footage from the area around Stortorget in Tromsø, where the incident occurred in a taxi queue on Saturday night, Nordlys writes.

The 18-year-old’s lawyer, Anja Hellander, says her client has hoped that the police would find a video of the incident.

“He says that the police will then see what has happened,” Hellander added.

No known relationship

The violent incident took place at 2:40 AM on Saturday. There is no known relationship between the 18-year-old and the victim.

“We are focusing on the actual use of violence and what happens in the taxi queue,” police attorney Christian Hanssen told the newspaper.

Police are still asking witnesses who saw the incident to contact them. Several people were already questioned on Monday, but the police attorney believes there were many people present who may have seen something.
