When it comes to the corona crisis, the EU will not repeat the same mistakes of the previous financial crisis, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.
The EU will not impose austerity measures after the crisis, the head of the European Commission assured in her annual speech on the state of the union.
After the financial crisis in 2008 and 2009, it took eight years before the EU economy was back at the same level as before the crisis, von der Leyen pointed out.
“We will not make that mistake again,” she said.
“Europe declared victory too early after the financial crisis and paid the price for it,” she added.
