Weekend forecast: Temperature expected to drop in the north of Norway – sleet in the west

This weekend, temperatures will fall in Northern Norway, while Western Norway is expected to get rain and wind.

“There will be some quite autumnal weather ahead, typical November weather,” state meteorologist Rannveig Eikill from the Meteorological Institute told NTB.

In Northern Norway, the weather has been quite mild recently. Now the temperatures are going down again. There will be heavy showers in several places in Nordland on Thursday, with a minor thunderstorm throughout the evening.

“It will mainly rain,” Eikill said, adding that towards the weekend, there will be a transition from sleet to snow in several places in Northern Norway, also in the lowlands.

“The temperatures will drop to the minus side,” she noted.

Rain and wind

In Western Norway, more low pressure is expected from the west in the next few days. The western part of the country will get a lot of precipitation.

“It will rain both in Western Norway and in Trøndelag after Friday. It also looks like the wind will increase sharply,” Eikill added.

This weekend, temperatures will also fall somewhat in Southern Norway, but there is currently no talk of minus degrees and winter weather.

On Sunday, the rough weather in Western Norway will improve, as is the case in large parts of Southern Norway.

“On Sunday, we expect more northwesterly wind with some clouds at the beginning of the day, but then it can clear up and be very nice Østafjells and in Sørlandet.”

Mild weather on the way

After the weekend, it is currently likely that the temperatures will change, followed by more mild weather across the country, the meteorologist believes.

“A low-pressure area from the west comes in on Monday – it will give us somewhat milder weather, especially in Nordland, where the precipitation will continue even after the weekend.”

Also, in the south, temperatures will rise somewhat after the weekend. 

“The weather is very variable these days, and the temperatures are going up and down. It is probably a bit early to state that winter is on its way,” Eikill concluded.
