A woman in her 40s pleaded guilty to the murder of her brother in the center of Halden. Her motives are unknown for now.

In a press release, the police confirmed that the accused and the deceased are brother and sister. The man was killed inside an apartment. Police believe he was killed with a knife.

“The accused has been cooperative during questioning,” Anders Svarholt in the Eastern Police District stated.

“The investigation of the incident will continue, with further interrogations and technical and tactical investigative steps,” Svanholt added.

Family member present

The relatives have been notified. Police further wrote that a third family member was present in the apartment during the incident. This family member has the status of a witness.

The accused woman has agreed to custody, and the request for imprisonment will be processed on Wednesday without the parties present in court.

“She is tired and affected (by the situation), but has explained herself well during today’s interrogation,” the woman’s lawyer Kristin Morch told newspaper Dagbladet.

Declared dead on the spot

The police were notified at 10 PM on Monday after a person had been seriously injured in an apartment in the center of Halden.

At 11 PM, the victim was declared dead on the spot. Neighbors in the area around the apartment where the murder took place told newspaper Halden Arbeiderblad that there was noise and cries for help on Monday night.

“There were three desperate cries for help, and it was quite clear that something serious was about to happen. It sounded like it was a life or death situation,” Natasha Hammerø said.
