A woman in her 60s has been charged with serious instances of hate speech against young people with a foreign background on the metro in Oslo.

According to the indictment, the incidents took place on a metro car on a Monday night last summer.

The woman is said to have said “cursed monkeys” and “we were born here, not you.”

According to the indictment, the statements were directed at several young people who were not of ethnic Norwegian origin and who stayed in the metro car around the woman.

The case is due to go to court on Wednesday next week, and one day has been set aside for the trial.

  1. I hate racism! That Norwegian white woman should be ashamed of herself for uttering those hating words”quote” I was born here not your cursed monkeys”.Shocked& mad I love Norway so much, so disappointed! With my family investments of millions of millions of Norwegian airlines, fisheries, oil, forest, etc’s…it is time for a reckoning!

Now I do agree with you that what that women said was horrible, I do not condone it in any way. But having her go to court is dangerous. We give to much power to governments that can in the future claim hate speech on almost anything they please. Don’t put too much trust in a government that has lost 8 cases in human rights courts, many of them for taking children away from perfectly loving parents and have done nothing to rectify their guilt. We the people and private enterprise should go against hateful people and not governments that do not accurately describe what hate speech is.

    Elias,

Hate speach does not need much defining,it’s saying things in person or on line, that makes the other person feel threatened or unwelcome in society. Simple. And needs to be illegal, absolutely. Instead of punishment with a finer prison, they should en sent to help in a refugee camp overseas to experience what it’s like to have been born in a country that persecuted part of its population, instead in a safe country like Norway. Where you are born is our fortune , nothing else.

  4. Any objection to immigration should be addressed to politicians—natives should be courteous with any person here, permitted by law.

What do some people intend to gain from indulging in hate speech? is it provocation, harm and hurt, or dehumanizing the victim? offcourse not all people commit hate speech, but for as many who do that should be ashamed of themselves. Interestingly i perceive such offenders as sad and troubled people in life. I believe it is not wrong when we continuously condemn hate speech and give it no room in our society we live in. #I condemn hate speech#
