Woman found dead in Kvinnherad – man arrested and charged

A woman was found dead outdoors on Varaldsøy in Kvinnherad on Thursday night. Police believe she was killed. A man has been accused in the case.

“The accused was last night transported to the Bergen city center police station. He will have a defender appointed on Friday morning,” operations manager Stine Mjelde in the Western Police District noted in a press release sent out just before 4 o’clock on Friday night.

The police were notified of the discovery of the dead woman at 8:40 PM on Thursday. Preliminary findings suggest that she was killed, according to police.

One man arrested and charged

The man who is now charged was arrested near the place where the woman was found.

The crime scene is cordoned off, and forensic technicians will arrive at Varaldsøy on Friday morning. The deceased has not been formally identified, but the police believe they have established the correct identity of the deceased woman. The woman’s relatives have been notified.

Varaldsøy is located in the Hardangerfjord and is part of Kvinnherad Municipality in Sunnhordland, just over two hours drive southeast of Bergen. The island had 204 inhabitants in 2019, according to Store norske leksikon.
