One man has been arrested after a woman was shot with a two-handed firearm in the center of Drammen on Friday. Shots were still being fired at the scene when police arrived.

The emergency services were notified that shots were fired in an apartment in Tordenskiolds gate around 5 o’clock in the morning.

When the police arrived at the scene, police officers heard several shots being fired.

“After we heard the shots, we came in contact with a woman who had been shot in the arm and a witness who was with her.

“We are interested in getting in touch with more witnesses,” operations manager Øystein Eikedalen in the Southeastern Police District told news bureau NTB.

Two people taken to the hospital, one injured

The two women were taken to the hospital; only one of them was physically injured. Just before 7 o’clock, the suspected perpetrator was arrested.

“He called the police to turn himself in. He has been arrested. We also have control over what we believe is the weapon used, a two-handed firearm,” Eikedalen said.

According to newspaper Drammens Tidende, several people were gathered in the apartment when the man started shooting through the door.

Not a life-threatening injury

No shots were fired at the police on the spot. The police do not know if there is a relationship between the man and the woman who was shot but state that the man is in his 20s and the woman in her 30s.

They are both of foreign origin, Eikedalen said.

The police are now working at the scene and conducting a tactical investigation.

The woman was transported to Drammen hospital, but her injuries are not life-threatening.
