A Brann supporter was reported to the police on Sunday after he urinated on a press photographer during a Brann match. The supporter has now been banned.
The incident occurred in the first half of the match between Sandefjord and Brann. A supporter urinated in the direction of NTB photographer Trond Reidar Teigen, while another person spat on his shoulder, the newspaper Bergens Tidende writes.
The urination was captured by surveillance cameras at Sandefjord’s arena, and the culprit was quickly identified. Now he is also banned from Brann Stadium indefinitely, the club announced in a press release.
“Brann strongly dissociates itself from the incident and apologizes in the strongest terms to the photographer. On Monday, Brann met with the supporter, who explained his version (of the story). He strongly regrets his behavior. He accepts the sanction from the club,” it is stated in the press release.
Reported to the police
Both Teigen and NTB reported the incident to the police, who are now investigating the case.
“Neither photojournalists nor others at work should have to experience this. It is totally unacceptable, and in extreme consequence, it threatens not only the security but also the journalistic freedom of our photographer. We have to react to that,” the editor of the visual department at NTB, Christina Dorthellinger, said.
Teigen spoke to the newspaper Bergensavisen after the match about the unpleasant incident.
“It is the first time in my twelve years as a football photographer that I have experienced something like that. It is also wonderful that it happened in a time where supporter culture is talked about so much. And it is quite unbelievable that a grown man can bring himself to piss on someone,” the NTB photographer said.
