Founded in 1872, Aschehoug is one of the biggest independent publishing companies in Norway.

Aschehoug’s annual garden party has been canceled for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The party is usually a highlight of the summer on the Oslo cultural scene. But, it wasn’t held last year – and it also won’t be this year, Dagbladet reported.

“We will return stronger next year. Then, Aschehoug publishing house will be 150 years old,” said publishing manager Mads Nygaard to the newspaper.

“We do not find it justifiable under the circumstances to arrange such a large party, even if it is outdoors. When 1,250 people are gathered in the garden of the Aschehoug villa, it becomes cramped,” Nygaard explained.
