The total number of overnight stays has also fallen somewhat at campsites, cabin areas, and hostels.

Within the hotel sector, the number of foreign overnight stays has fallen by as much as 73%, while Norwegian hotel overnight stays fell by 29%.

Increased use of cabins and campsites

Norwegians, on the other hand, have increased their use of cabins and campsites.

The number of Norwegian overnight stays at campsites was just under 11% higher in September this year than in September last year, while the number of Norwegian overnight stays at cabins and hostels was 32% higher.

“Norwegians love to travel, and we have seen that camping sites and cabins, where people can be together in a small group, are popular during the pandemic,” advisor Kristin Aasestad at SSB noted.
