Free online event

Vesterheim is currently inviting anyone interested to a free online opening event for their latest exhibition, “New Nordic Cuisine”.

“New Nordic Cuisine” delves into one of the 21st century’s most important global food movements. If you can’t make it to Decorah, Iowa in person, you can still get a taste of “New Nordic Cuisine” during the online opening event.

The online event will take place on Saturday, November 28, at 4 PM CST (11 PM Norwegian time).

Upon registering at the Vesterheim website here, participants will receive a Zoom link for the event.

As part of the program, owner of Decorah’s Courtyard and Cellar Dylan Reed-Maxfield will present a Scandinavian craft cocktail demonstration.

Additionally, Tova Brandt, Museum of Danish America Executive Director, will give a gallery talk.

There will also be a live Q&A session, and exciting announcements about Vesterheim programs planned for 2021.

Get to know “New Nordic Cuisine”

On loan from the Museum of Danish America, the in-person “New Nordic Cuisine” exhibition itself will open at Vesterheim in Decorah on November 27.

The exhibition explores culinary relationships as more than just recipes, flavors, and techniques. It digs deeper into the traditional food and contemporary innovation; local production and global reach; and restaurant culture and home cooking.

Visitors will get to discover how cooking traditions and innovation from the Nordic region have captured the world’s attention – and inspired both international chefs and home cooks.

The “New Nordic Cuisine” exhibition is sponsored by Jon and Mary Hart, Jim and Marge Iversen, Philip and Sarah Iversen, John and Birgitte Christianson, and Tom and Linda Brandt.
