In connection with the start of studies this autumn, the Norwegian Directorate of Health will send out 50,000 condoms to the student sponsor boards (fadderstyrene). At the same time, they hope for increased awareness of infection control.

“We hope the awareness of infection control as a result of the pandemic makes more people want to protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections,” acting department director Kristine Hartvedt at the Norwegian Directorate of Health’s department for child and adolescent health told the newspaper VG.

Hartvedt further noted that everyone over the age of 18 would be offered a vaccine during this week or next week.

“Students who want a vaccine will thus be protected by the first dose at the start of their studies. We expect that all adults who wish to do so will be fully vaccinated by the end of September.”

Although students have many close contacts at the beginning of the semester, while many are still only partially vaccinated, she fears that there may be an increase in infection.

“Sponsorship events must be carried out in accordance with current infection control advice. From October onwards, it will probably not be necessary to limit the number of close contacts anymore, but we cannot say for sure yet,” she noted.
