More than 4,000 people applied for 400 places at the Police Academy in Norway this year

A total of 4,284 people applied for 400 study places at the Police Academy this year. That is 23.9% more applicants compared with last year.

The number is also the highest since 2018.

In 2020, there were 8.6 applicants for each of the 400 study places. This year, the corresponding figure is 10.7 applicants per study place. Ann-Lisbeth Framaas, section leader for Admissions and Recruitment at the Police Academy, is pleased.

“It is positive to see that even more people want to become a part of the police. Interest in education has been high for many years. 

“The social mission and the police profession are probably perceived as important. The application numbers can fluctuate somewhat from year to year. 

“We assume that somewhat better opportunities to get to work faster after graduation may be a factor that has affected the applicant’s interest now,” she said.

For the sixth year in a row, the proportion of female applicants has increased. This year, the proportion of women is at a record high 56.8%.

“We are now approaching a gender distribution we recognize from higher education in general. In higher education, the gender distribution has long been about 60% women and 40% men,” Framaas noted.
