Norwegian students request increased student support due to price growth

According to the National Union of Students in Norway, student support has increased too little compared to price growth. They are asking for urgent support from the government.

“We are dependent on the price adjustment of student support in every single state budget. This year it amounts to 2%. Then we are left with a real decline in the purchasing power of Norwegian students,” organization leader Tuva Todnem Lund told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

In February, food prices rose by 4.5%, and the Technical Calculation Committee estimates the total price increase in Norway to be at 3.3% this year.

Lund believes that there must be urgent support to students outside the state budget, for example, through a revised national budget.

The Ministry of Education and Research stated that there are no plans to change the level of student support this year.
