Twice as many students as in 2003 feel they do not fit in at school, according PISA figures reported last week.
The PISA survey revealed that Norwegian 15-year-olds are clearly getting better in the subjects of science, math and reading than they were three years ago, and are amongst the best in the OECD in reading.
However, the survey shows that more and more say they feel excluded and that twice as many as in 2003 feel they do not fit in, according to Aftenposten.
At the same time, fewer pupils indicate that they can easily make friends.
Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen says that there will be a separate report this spring, where PISA researchers will delve further into these questions.
– This is an absolutely essential part of going to school. We do not have a good school if students become proficient in math and are being bullied more.
The Student Organisation feels that PISA shows that while we are approaching a school where students perform better, there are fewer who enjoy themselves and the school environment is steadily becoming worse.
– This is unacceptable, and we expect that the results of the well-being and bullying are taken just as seriously as the results of mathematics, reading and science, says Student Leader Sylvia Lind.
