The student associations around the country have applied for support to build 2,475 student housing units, the Ministry of Education and Research says.

This year, money has been allocated to 2,200 student housing units, which has been normal during this government. This is an increase from around 1,000 commitments annually before 2013, according to the Ministry of Education and Research.

In 2019, applications were received for 1,450 new student housing units, but money was allocated to far more people.

Minister of Research and Higher Education Iselin Nybø (V) is pleased that there have been more applicants this year.

-“At the same time, it is important that the joint ventures continue this work, and that the municipalities around the country contribute with prompt case management and make plots available, so that even more student housing can be built in the years to come,” she says.

The Husbanken will assess whether the applications meet the eligibility requirements in 2020. The Ministry of Education and Research will decide who will receive the money, and this will probably be clarified in February.
