The county doctor will investigate the events at Voss hospital where seven patients were given incorrect knee prostheses between May 2018 and January 2019.
The patients were to have uncemented prostheses but instead had surgery in cemented prostheses without these being attached with cement wrote Bergens Tidende newspaper.
The events will be viewed by quality control in Bergen Health Authority. In September, the failures will be the subject of a national patient safety conference. The county doctor has also examines the incident.
“We are very sorry for what has happened and have apologised to the patients” said Olav Lødemel, Director of Voss Hospital.
The faulty operations were caused by the fact that the operation team probably did not understand the type designations of the boxes in which the prostheses were located. The hospital has since introduced written routines and made an extra point in the check form.
