Norwegian government approves continued high production of gas

Three Norwegian gas fields have had their production licenses adjusted and will thus be able to maintain their high production levels in the future.

“These decisions will not significantly increase the total daily export of gas from the Norwegian continental shelf, but facilitate that the current high level of delivery can be continued in the future.

“Further questions about what this will mean for the production volume from the various fields must be directed to the operator for the various fields,” the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy wrote in a press release.

Oseberg, Troll, and Heidrun

The following fields are affected by the decision: Oseberg, Troll, and Heidrun. In a press release, Equinor noted that the increase makes it possible to maintain production at the same level through the summer months and until September 30.

Oseberg and Troll can export around 1 billion cubic meters of extra gas, while Heidrun has the option of 0.4 more.

“For us, it is important to make the best possible arrangements for the companies to maintain today’s high production also in the future. Through the decisions for the Oseberg, Troll, and Heidrun fields, that’s what we’re doing,” Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Aasland (AP) said.

“Our focus is to maintain the safe and efficient operations of our facilities, so that we remain a reliable supplier of energy to the markets in Europe in a very demanding situation. In close dialogue with the authorities and our partners, we are now taking measures to continue the high level of production from the winter,” Kjetil Hove, Executive Vice President of Equinor, stated.
