Eight out of ten are saving or planning to save money. In addition, there are several that save without knowing it themselves. A quarter of those who save, do not know why they do it.

In a survey conducted by Ipsos MMI for DNB provide 63 percent said they save, while 17 percent plan to do so within the year. When asked why they want to put money aside, around 27 percent answered “do not know”.

It began after the financial crisis in 2009, statistics showed greater caution and increased savings in Norwegian households, while lending growth appeared to stabilize. Seasonally adjusted savings figures for subsequent years show that savings continued to increase steadily year by year. The proportion who do not know what they save for, has increased dramatically.

– Over the past five years, about 16 percent of us saved without a goal, while this year is around 27 percent, consumer economist Nigel Sandmæl said.
