Europol warns of the danger that potential counterfeited corona vaccines could be offered to people.
Criminals could try to exploit the current demand for corona vaccines, Europol chief Catherine De Bolle said in a statement on Sunday.
The authorities have already seen concrete signs of possible foul play, such as the fact that vaccines are allegedly offered for sale via social media, she pointed out.
She asked people to be careful.
Risks
Anyone who pursues such offers risks either not receiving anything or receiving fake vaccines. The latter can also have serious negative health effects, De Bolle warned.
Europol has sent out warnings to all member states, she further stated.
De Bolle also warned that the authorities must be prepared for attempts of vaccine robberies.
Police throughout the EU are working together to protect vaccine transport, the Europol chief noted.
