Finland decided to close its border with Norway to prevent the mutated coronavirus from spreading, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reports.

The border will be closed from Wednesday to February 25.

With Finland’s entry ban, it is now impossible for Norwegians to enter any of Norway’s neighboring countries freely.

“The epidemic situation in Finland differs significantly from that in other Schengen countries. For this reason, the risk of travelers spreading the new corona variants is significant,” the Finnish Ministry of the Interior wrote.

On Friday last week, the outbreak of the British variant of the coronavirus in Nordre Follo became national news.

The variant is up to 70% more contagious than the regular coronavirus, which is most common in Norway today.
