Minister of Health Bent Høie (H) informed Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that new national measures will be introduced next week, with the aim of keeping the R-number below 1.

“Now we have an R-number of 1.3. That means that the infection increases very quickly. If it is allowed to continue to do so through March and April, it will have dramatic consequences for many people who will become seriously ill and have to be hospitalized. Our health service will be seriously overloaded,” he told NRK.

In the last 24 hours, 689 corona infection cases have been registered in Norway. That is 190 more than the day before and 348 more than the same day last week.

Earlier this week, Høie said that the increasing infection rates could be the start of a third wave and that, therefore, a tightening of the national measures would probably ensue.
