The man who shot and killed 21-year-old Halil Kara outside Prinsdal grill last winter has been sentenced by the Oslo District Court to 13 years in prison, according to Nettavisen.

The Oslo District Court passed the verdict on Friday afternoon. The main perpetrator has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for murder, Nettavisen writes.

Just before midnight on January 10 last year, 21-year-old Halil Kara was shot in the head by a masked perpetrator after a kebab meal with three friends in Prinsdal, which is located in the Søndre Nordstrand district.

The 21-year-old man, who is the main defendant in the case, confessed that he was the one who shot Kara. He gave a detailed description of how he waited in the car outside Prinsdal Grill, eventually hid in an alley, and how he aimed the gun at Kara’s head when he and his friends were on their way to the car after the meal.

Fatal shot

The fatal shot hit Halil Kara in the temple from a close distance. He was pronounced dead in the ambulance shortly after he fell to the ground, lifeless.

“This murder has the character of a pure execution,” public prosecutor Irlin Irgens said in court.

She asked the judges to completely disregard the main defendant’s explanation and concluded her procedure by filing a claim for 14 years in prison.

The 21-year-old denied criminal guilt for the murder because he claims he did not know that the weapon that was fired was loaded with live ammunition. He stated that he wanted to use the weapon to scare Kara away so that he could confront one of his comrades.

Other charges

All five young men charged in the indictment pleaded not guilty to the main charges in the indictment when it was read out in court during the main trial began.

One of them was sitting in the car with the main accused perpetrator before the murder took place but was not present outside the fast-food restaurant and had no role in the actual violence that followed. He claimed in court that he was not aware of what was going to happen and asked to be acquitted of complicity in murder.

The prosecutor requested that he be sentenced to eight years in prison for complicity.

The man who was accused of bringing the firearm to the main accused denied the claim. However, he is linked to the murder in that a car he is said to have driven was recorded on a private surveillance camera shortly before the fatal shooting took place.

The prosecutor requested 14 years in prison for the man.

According to the public prosecutor’s request, the two young men who helped the main suspect escape the country the day after the murder should be sentenced to six and nine months in prison, respectively.
