A man has been sentenced by the Bergen District Court to 21 years of preventive detention, with a minimum period of 10 years, for abuse that said to have occurred at the Norway Cup in 2005, newspaper Nettavisen reports.

The 50-year-old man is said to have abused a girl under the age of 16. He was her team leader during the football tournament.

The abuse allegedly took place in a room at the school where the team lived during the tournament, according to Nettavisen.

In addition to 21 years of detention, the man has been sentenced to pay reparation to the victim of a total of NOK 3.7 million, the newspaper writes.

Already in prison

The man was acquitted of alleged, repeated abuse in the aftermath of the incident at the Norway Cup in 2005 and up to and including 2007.

The man is already in prison in connection with another abuse case. In early November, he was sentenced to 21 years in prison in what is referred to as a “dark room” case for ordering the online abuse of young children in the Philippines.
