Norwegian citizen arrested in Turkey for terrorist activities

A man with Norwegian citizenship was arrested in July for affiliation with the banned Kurdish organization PKK. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is assisting the man in the case.

The man was arrested by police and Turkey’s National Intelligence Service on July 27th in the northwestern province of Bursa, Anadolu State News Agency writes.

According to sources, the man must have been in contact with the news agency and had been responsible for the group’s organizational activities in Norway and Europe. He was jailed on July 31st for his association with the organization.

The PKK guerrilla is banned in Turkey and is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the EU.

Press officer Ane Haavardsdatter Lunde, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed to NTB that they are informed that a Norwegian citizen has been arrested and imprisoned in Turkey.

“The man receives consular assistance in the usual way,” says Lunde.
